A Kuna, Idaho, man was sentenced to a stint in jail and probation for insurance fraud involving a claim for a whitewater raft that he did not own.

Justin Moss filed a claim for more than $17,000 from Progressive Insurance for a Maravia Williwaw whitewater raft and personal property that he reported stolen, according to the Idaho Department of Insurance.

The department’s fraud unit reportedly found that Moss obtained the raft’s serial number from its owner, who had listed it for sale. The owner confirmed that the raft had not been sold and remained in her possession.

At his sentencing last month in Ada County, Moss was found guilty to two counts of insurance fraud, and he received a five-year prison term that was suspended in favor of a 60-day sentence and five years of probation. He was also ordered to pay fines and restitution.
