Utah Voters Say ‘Yes’ to Medical Marijuana

Voters in Utah have decided to legalize medical marijuana.

With most precincts reporting in, Utah’s medical cannabis ballot measure, or Proposition 2, led by a margin of 53 percent to 47 percent.

Under the measure patients with physician approval would be issued state identification cards and could then purchase up to 2 ounces of medical marijuana containing 10 grams of cannabidiol or tetrahydrocannabinol from a dispensary.

Patients not located within 100 miles of a dispensary could cultivate six cannabis plants at home.

Smoking medical marijuana would not be allowed under the measure, however.

Gov. Gary Herbert came out against the measure, saying it could open the door to recreational use, and he LDS Church also objected to Prop 2.
