Southern California School Reopens After 2-Year Asbestos Closure

The last of three Southern California schools closed two years ago after asbestos was found has reopened following a complete overhaul.

The Orange County Register reported Lake View Elementary opened its doors Wednesday to more than 320 students as a fully wired and re-imagined kindergarten through grade 5 school.

It’s now Ocean View School District’s district’s first science, technology, engineering, arts and math magnet school.

Lake View, Hope View and Oak View elementary schools were closed in 2014 after small amounts of asbestos, a mineral fiber linked to disease, were found during a modernization project.

More than 1,600 students were bused to eight other schools in four districts after the campuses were closed.

Hope View and Oak view reopened last fall.
