Suit Accuses Nevada Special Education Teacher of Abusing 2 Children

December 1, 2015

Two families are suing a Reno, Nev. area school district, a teacher and a principal for what their lawsuit says was abuse at a school for children with disabilities.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reported the lawsuit filed in Reno’s U.S. District Court says two 8-year-olds were physically, emotionally and verbally abused during the 2013-2014 academic year by former Marvin Picollo School special education teacher Debbie Stebbins.

The Washoe County School District says Stebbins resigned, though it’s unclear when that occurred. Stebbins did not respond to requests for comment.

The district’s legal department said in a statement that the matter is being reviewed.

Picollo Principal Matthew Burak said Tuesday that he was unaware of the lawsuit.
