Oregon Woman Sues University after Falling Through Window Asleep

July 30, 2015

An Oregon State University student is suing a Eugene property management company after she fell from a third-story window while asleep.

The Register-Guard reported that Shelbi Macholz filed a lawsuit this week seeking $230,000 from Principle Property management to cover her medical expenses and other damages related to her pain and suffering.

Macholz says the company should have warned tenants of the fully opening third-story windows and that they neglected to install window bars.

Officials with the property management firm did not return telephone messages requesting comment on the lawsuit.

The lawsuit states that on July 27, 2014 Macholz went to sleep on her boyfriend’s bed near the open window. While still asleep, she managed to fall from the window. She suffered broken bones including her spine and pelvis.
