California Man Accused of Insurance Inspection Invoice Scam Nabbed

A California man was arrested in Arizona on charges that he scammed hundreds of people in three states in a fire insurance inspection scheme.

Robert Musich, 46, was being held on bond following his arrest in Lake Havasu City. Musich, of West Covina, Calif., is accused of setting up a phony business and sending invoices to people for fire insurance inspections that never happened, Lake Havasu City police spokesman Brian Jacobs said. Each invoice asked for $413.11 for the supposed inspections. Musich allegedly victimized people in Arizona, California and Nevada, the Today’s News-Herald reported.

The Nevada Attorney General’s Office issued a federal warrant for Musich on Thursday on charges of theft and fraud to obtain money and property. The office had received an alert that Musich used his credit card in Lake Havasu City. A task force followed Musich and conducted a sting operation the next day, Jacobs said.

After finding his boat at the Lake Havasu Marina, officers called Musich and told him his boat was sinking. When he arrived, he was subsequently arrested.

Musich is awaiting extradition to Nevada. It was not clear if he had hired an attorney, Mohave County jail officials said.
