Wrongful Death Suit Filed Against Colorado Bar After Triple-Fatal Crash

The parents of a 16-year-old Carbondale girl who was killed in a car crash have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against a Glenwood Springs bar, saying it served the underage driver alcohol before the accident.

The Post Independent reported Jennifer Nevarez’ parents are suing the Bayou Cajun Restaurant and Bar and at least one of its bartenders. Nevarez, 18-year-old Brianda Zavala and 24-year-old Albino Ortiz-Monge were killed in the April 14 crash in Glenwood Canyon.

The Colorado State Patrol says all three had a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit for driving. Zavala, the driver, had more than three times the limit, with a blood-alcohol content of 0.241 percent when the car slammed into a tractor-trailer.

Witnesses say the three may have continued drinking after leaving the bar.

Bar owner Steve Behem declined to comment.
