Thompson Ridge Fire in New Mexico Still Growing

The Thompson Ridge fire in northern New Mexico continues to grow even as firefighters make progress mopping up hot spots and clearing lines around the fuel.

The fire has burned 22.5 square miles in the Valle Caldera National Preserve and the Santa Fe National Forest near Jemez Springs.

More than 1,000 firefighters and other personnel are assigned to the fire, which is of Friday was at 10 percent containment.

The fire started May 31 from a downed power line.

According to the fire management team weather conditions have been helping firefighters but that they’re expected to worsen over the weekend.
