More Sand Bags Going Out To Limit Fire Flooding
Hundreds of homeowners living near the Waldo Canyon burn area in Colorado Springs are gearing up for more flooding this spring.
Officials say the risk of flooding has increased nearly four-fold as a result of environmental damage to the burn area. The sand bags are being handed out beginning Saturday at local fire stations. Property owners are being limited to 100 bags for each address per day.
Last year, two people died in the Waldo Canyon fire, which burned 346 homes and 28 square miles in Colorado Springs. Last summer, a mudslide following heavy rain in in the burn area temporarily closed U.S. 24 near Manitou Springs.
