Montana City Considering Cellphone Ban For Drivers

Officials in Columbia Falls, Mont. are considering a cellphone ban while driving after a man drove into the Flathead River while texting.

City Manager Susan Nicosia told the Flathead Beacon that the incident along with several other close calls led to the scheduling of a public hearing on June 18.

If the city moves forward a law could be in place by late summer.

Columbia Falls Police Chief David Perry says officers wouldn’t begin issuing tickets until fall.

Officials in nearby Whitefish banned the use of cellphones while driving last year.

Nicosia says a Columbia Falls ban if enacted would be similar to the Whitefish ban.
