Utah Replacing 73 State Vehicles With Hybrids
Utah officials are replacing 73 vehicles in the state’s fleet with fuel-efficient hybrids this year as part of Gov. Gary Herbert’s clean air initiative.
Herbert is also asking Utah’s households, businesses and government offices to pledge to make voluntary lifestyle changes to improve air quality. Those pledges can be logged on the Utah Clean Air Partnership website.
Mid-sized sedan hybrids have 83 percent greater fuel efficiency than similar, non-hybrid cars in the state’s fleet. When the new cars are purchased, the state will own more than 500 hybrids.
State officials are also planning to buy and test two electric vehicles this year.
