Arizona AG Sues Telemarketing Companies for Fraud

November 18, 2011

Arizona’s Attorney General has sued 11 people and several related telemarketing companies for allegedly defrauding customers who signed up for a home-based business opportunity promising high returns.

Attorney General Tom Horne accused the companies of charging nearly 5,000 customers from $99 to $499 in upfront costs, then using high-pressure sales tactics to get them to buy other services.

Some victims put in more than $33,000, but none ever recouped their investment or made a profit.

The lawsuit accuses the businesses of violating the Arizona Telephone Solicitations Act and seeks an order barring additional telemarketing. It also asks for civil penalties and restitution.
