Farmers, CEO Honored for Work with City of Hope Hospital
City of Hope hospital and research center’s National Insurance Industry Council is acknowledging Farmers Insurance and its chief executive officer, Bob Woudstra, at an annual gala being held on Nov. 12, at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum, in Simi Valley, Calif.
Farmers and Woudstra will receive City of Hope’s The Spirit of Life Award in recognition of their longtime support of City of Hope’s mission to find cures for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases.
Farmers Insurance has been a sponsor of City of Hope’s Walk for Hope, which supports the institution’s Women’s Cancers Program, for the past three years. Farmers also has launched a new national initiative to help City of Hope encourage the community to join Be The Match Registry, a program that helps patients who are battling cancers like leukemia and lymphoma find matching bone marrow donors. The initiative also includes an effort to get Farmers’ 40,000 agents and other employees to list themselves as donors.
The National Insurance Industry Council was formed in 1978 and has raised $19 million through its fundraising efforts for City of Hope.
