Oregon Bar Clears State Lawmaker in Insurance Contract Dispute
The Oregon State Bar has cleared a Republican state lawmaker from central Oregon in a contract dispute between two of his clients.
The Bulletin newspaper in Bend reports the bar found no basis for a claim of dishonesty against state Rep. Mike McLane of Powell Butte, an attorney who practices in Redmond.
A Bend couple had hired McLane to deal with their insurance company after their home was destroyed by a fire but claimed McLane acted unethically in preparing a backdated contract.
The bar conducted a lengthy investigation and found there was no evidence of any intent to deceive – especially since the couple had read the contract, did not object to it and knew it was backdated.
