Hawaii Requires Fingerprints for New Resident Insurance Licensees

Beginning Nov. 1, 2010, all applicants for an insurance license who are residents of Hawaii must submit a full set of fingerprints as a requirement of licensing. If the applicant is required to take a licensing exam, the applicant may submit the fingerprints after they earn a passing score. Residents with active licenses are not affected, the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Insurance Division said.

An individual who submits applications for two licenses simultaneously, such as a producer and surplus lines broker, only needs to be fingerprinted once. However, an individual who submits applications on different dates will be required to be fingerprinted again.

Fingerprints are being taken by appointment by FieldPrint, a Insurance Division vendor. FieldPrint will charge a fee that covers fingerprinting and related state and federal fees, the DOI said. Accordingly, the Insurance Division will no longer collect the $40 fee for a criminal history record heck and fingerprinting from residents or nonresidents.
