California Names New Deputy Insurance Commissioner
California’s Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner announced today that Peter Conlin has been appointed deputy commissioner for policy and regulations and counsel to the Commissioner for the Department of Insurance (CDI).
Conlin replaces outgoing Deputy Commissioner and Counsel to the Commissioner Bill Gausewitz, who is leaving CDI to work as an attorney at the Encino-based Michelman & Robinson law firm.
Conlin has had a distinguished career in state service and the insurance industry. He has served as the Republican consultant for the Insurance Committee in both the California State Assembly and the California State Senate.
He also served as the Legal Counsel to Assembly Speaker Curt Pringle and as counsel to the Senate Minority Leader from 2001-03. Conlin additionally served as assistant state treasurer from 1998-1999. He has worked as an attorney, representing insurance agents, brokers and the American Insurance Association. Conlin has a bachelor of arts degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania; a master of arts degree in history from Northwestern University and a juris doctorate degree from UC Davis.
Conlin “brings a wealth of knowledge from his experience in state service and the insurance industry,” said Commissioner Poizner.
