Willis Group to Enter Washington
New York-based Willis Group Holdings Ltd. has announced plans to open a brokerage office in Washington to service the Inland Northwest. The office will be managed by Curtis Taylor.
The company said it hopes to fill a perceived market void that was created by Marsh’s regulatory woes, corporate restructuring, staffing reductions, and pending sale of its operation in Washington. Ten Marsh emploees have been hired, according to Taylor.
He also told the Spokane Journal of Business that he expects the office to grow to 35 to 35 employees and reach $50 million in annual premium billinings within five years by targeting employers with 15 to 1,000 employees.
Taylor had been an executive with Marsh since November 2002, before which he was the Spokane-based general manager and senior vice president for MSC/Premera Blue Cross.
According to the Journal, Marsh employees here were informed that the Spokane office will be sold shortly and is reviewing bids from prospective buyers of the office’s assets.
