Record Turnout for ACIC’s General Counsel Seminar

The Association of California Insurance Companies (ACIC) had a record turnout at its recently concluded XVI Annual General Counsel Seminar at the Wynn Hotel, according to ACIC President Sam Sorich.

“More than 220 people attended this year’s event, making it the largest gathering in the seminar’s 16-year history. The turnout, combined with the presentations by panelists and keynote speakers, made this year’s seminar a tremendous success,” said Sorich.

One of the keynote speakers was Gary Cohen, general counsel of the California Dept. of Insurance. Cohen discussed the department’s regulatory activities on such issues as agent/broker compensation and prior approval of rates.

Another keynote speaker, Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante discussed the 2003 recall election and his record in the Legislature, including the period he served as speaker of the Assembly.

Other issues discussed by the speakers and panelists included reinsurance, California regulations, appellate court rulings, privacy legislation, punitive damages, national trends in insurance legislation and regulation, California’s political scene, personal lines issues and workers’ compensation.
