Wyoming Governor Signs Bills

August 2, 2004

Gov. Dave Freudenthal has signed the last three bills passed by the special legislative session, which was held earlier this month to deal with the rising cost of medical malpractice insurance being paid by doctors.

One bill authorizes up to six additional Wyoming medical students at the University of Washington.

Another authorizes an array of studies of the state’s health-care issues, including a medical errors reporting system, a self-insurance pool for doctors and the distribution of doctors around the state.

The third bill offers $13 million in low-interest state loans to help doctors pay for their medical malpractice insurance.
