CAP-MPT Chief Executive Joins PIAA Board
James L. Weidner, CEO of the Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc.-Mutual Protection Trust (CAP-MPT), was elected to the board of directors of the Physician Insurers Association of America (PIAA).
The PIAA is a trade association of more than 60 providers of medical malpractice coverage, all owned and operated by doctors and dentists. Collectively, these companies insure approximately 60 percent of America’s private practice physicians, as well as dentists, hospitals, and other healthcare providers.
Within the PIAA, Weidner serves as co-chair of the Rating Agencies Committee and as an executive member of the Chief Operating Officer Committee.
A 25-year veteran of the insurance industry, Weidner joined Los Angeles-based CAP-MPT in 1995. Under his tenure, the medical professional liability provider has strengthened its ties with the larger financial community, improved its value to members through increased services, and built on the company’s core competency in claims handling, underwriting, and physician-patient arbitration.
