ITC Tournament Raises More than $25,000 to Help Fight Child Abuse

November 9, 2001

Bill DeMeulle, president of DeMeulle Insurance Agency Inc. and chairman of the Eighth Annual Insuring the Children Golf Tournament, announced this year’s ITC tournament raised more than $25,000 to help fund programs in the prevention of child abuse.

Dove Canyon Country Club hosted insurance professionals from all around Southern California for a day of golf and fun as ITC members encouraged many of their clients and friends to donate prizes, and many people went home with raffle prizes or golf awards.

Kathy McCarrell, director of the Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center, thanked members for their past support of her organization. She gave a short presentation on child abuse and its effects on the community and society. Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center has been a regular recipient of some of the funds raised by Insuring the Children. ITC has worked closely with McCarrell to help provide her with funding for various programs such as Teen Voices/Teen Choices, a program that sends a panel of trained teen parents out into the community to talk to their peers about the overwhelming responsibilities involved in raising a child and how their unplanned pregnancy forever changed their lives.

ITC has also sponsored “Baby Think It Over Doll” for teens to teach them the reality of parenting. This real-to-life baby doll is programmed through a computer chip making the doll cry when hungry, when left alone, abused or shaken. The teens are required to provide 24-hour care for one weekend.

While sponsors were encouraged to participate at different levels, the Gold sponsors who donated $2,500 each included Hartford Insurance Company, USI, Zenith Insurance, Armstrong-Robitaille Insurance Services and MTS Insurance Services.

Showing support for the industry and “Insuring the Children” were Armstrong-Robitaille; Royal Indemnity; Zurich; Fireman’s Fund; Chubb Ins.; Dodge, Warren & Peters; Canada Life; Fortis; Sterling West; Royal/Sun Alliance; Brakke-Schafnitz; AIG; Cassidy Employee; Rule Co.; IBEX Financial; Preferred Employee Benefits; W.
