AB 2639 Passes Senate Insurance Committee
Yesterday morning, the American Agents Alliance reported that it got the necessary six votes to move AB 2639 (Calderon) out of the Senate Insurance Committee.
The Alliance-sponsored bill now makes its way to the Senate floor. The following members casted the six “aye” votes to move the bill out of committee: Nell Soto (D-Ontario), Ross Johnson (R-Irvine), Pat Johnston (D-Stockton), Martha Escutia (D-Commerce), Tim Leslie (R-Tahoe City) and John Lewis (R-Orange).
The committee chairman, Jackie Speier (D-San Francisco), cast a “nay” vote. The consumer protection bill eliminates any guesswork as to whether an insurance producer is acting as a “broker” or “agent.”
