Not-So-Mobile Home Gets Stuck and Demolished on Mississippi Highway

A mobile home met its demise when it was moved by an unlicensed and uninsured tow truck driver, and another Mississippi man is charged with arson after he allegedly torched his own home in Indianola, the Mississippi Insurance Department announced.

In Scott County, Stephen Goodlow was charged with moving a manufactured home without a license last week. The structure proved to be not so mobile when it became stuck on a public highway. The twisted home had to be demolished before it could be removed from the road, the State Fire Marshal’s Office explained.

Goodlow was cited by the state Highway Patrol for operating without a commercial driver’s license and without insurance coverage.

The Fire Marshal’s office “hopes this incident reminds people that manufactured homes must be transported by properly licensed movers and in compliance with all applicable permitting, licensing, insurance, and highway‐safety requirements,” the department said in a bulletin.

Meanwhile, about 120 miles away in Indianola, Mississippi, Frederick Pearson was charged with arson of an insured property. The Insurance Department said the man set fire to his own home in May, causing an estimated $25,000 in damage.
