North Carolina Man Charged With ID Theft, Filing Multiple Auto Claims

North Carolina authorities last week charged a man with 21 felonies, including insurance fraud and theft, after he reportedly stole identities and filed false auto claims with four insurance companies.

Damain Rayshawn Cummings, 30, of Zebulon, appeared in court April 30 and was released on a $300,000 bond, the North Carolina Department of Insurance said in a bulletin. He was charged with assuming the identities of six people in the state and filing claims with Progressive, State Farm, Liberty Mutual and Allstate insurance companies.

The fraud happened between September 2024 and March of this year, DOI said. NCDOI investigators were alerted to the actions and led an investigation. The suspect may have obtained some of the individuals’ personal information through their birth certificates and emails, the department noted.
