Delta Jets Collide on the Ground at Atlanta Airport, Causing Minor Damage
Two Delta Air Lines jets collided on the ground at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport Tuesday, knocking the tail off of the smaller regional plane.
Multiple news sources reported that no one was injured and passengers were booked onto other flights Tuesday afternoon. Delta, based in Atlanta, said the wing of a large Airbus A350, bound for Tokyo, hit the tail of the smaller Bombardier CRJ-900 that was on a taxiway nearby, the Associated Press reported.
A TV news reporter from Tampa, who happened to be on the smaller plane en route to Louisiana, described the incident as “jarring” and terrifying. The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating, news sources said.
The incident came two weeks after an airliner tire exploded in a Delta maintenance shop at the Atlanta airport. The explosion killed two workers and injured a third.
