Alabama Wind Mitigation Grant Application Process Opens for Q1
The application process for another round of Alabama home-fortification grants opened Wednesday, Jan. 3, offering up to $10,000 for homeowners who retrofit their homes to make them more wind resistant.
The grants, evaluated on a quarterly basis, will pay 100% of the cost of mitigation, up to $10,000, and homeowners must pay for costs above that, according to the Strengthen Alabama Homes program. The program, which can result in significant property insurance premium discounts, was approved by the Alabama Legislature and is based on standards developed by the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety.
Homes must be in good repair and must be insured. Applicants can find more information and can begin the process at the program’s website.
