Kentucky Public Adjusters Must Now File Template Contracts with DOI

Public adjusters in Kentucky must now file template contracts with the state Department of Insurance.

House Bill 232, signed by the governor in March, took effect at the end of June. It placed new restrictions on public claims adjusters, including the requirement that adjusters must have a signed contract with the homeowner before they can begin work, using a form approved by the insurance commissioner.

The Department of Insurance is still finalizing regulations to comply with the law, but for now it has set up interim procedures, officials said in a bulletin. Adjusters should send their template contracts, in PDF format, via email to doi.licensingmail@ky.gov, for approval.
