Former Aflac Employee Charged as Ringleader of Georgia Fraud Scheme

A former Aflac Insurance employee, described as the leader of a fraud ring in Georgia, has been charged in connection with submitting dozens of false claims to the supplemental insurance provider.

Amber Miles, 32, filed 52 claims and submitted three dozen forged documents, for medical treatment, to Aflac, and collected more than $21,000, from 2018 to 2021, according to Georgia Insurance Commissioner John King’s office.

The office said that Miles used her knowledge of AFLAC’s process and system to manage the alleged fraud. Three others, Ashley Simmons, Shermekia Owens and Tyria King, submitted some 19 fraudulent claims and were paid $18,000, King said in a bulletin.

All four women were booked into the Muscogee County jail, King’s office said. The alleged fraud came to light when Aflac officials discovered the former employee was turning in fraudulent claims and reported her to the Georgia Office of the Commissioner of Insurance, said Weston Burleson, director of communications for the office.
