Alabama Couple Charged with Dumping Oil Over 33 Miles of Road, Creating a Hazard
An Alabama couple has been arrested after authorities said they dumped oil over 33 miles of road around Decatur, in the northern part of the state.
The news outlet AL.com reported that crews in Lawrence County had to spread 37 tons of sand and expend about 70 hours of labor to clean up the mess and make the roads drivable. Keith Clarke and Laura Clarke, from Courtland, were charged after security camera footage showed a pickup truck pulling a trailer with a 500-gallon tank, according to local TV news.
The charges of criminal mishchief and littering are misdemeanors, and bail for the couple was set at $3,500 each. The motive for the mischief was unclear, news outlets reported.
