Georgia Commissioner Wants Consumers to Stay Away from ‘Dirt-Cheap Insurance’

Georgia’s insurance commissioner is warning consumers to steer clear of Dirt-Cheap Insurance, an unlicensed outfit that he said has sold fraudulent policies in the state.

Three people associated with Dirt-Cheap, Deamarkis Barber, Oluwatosin Oyediran, and Kamaria Berry, have been charged or are wanted in connection with alleged scams, Commissioner John King said in a bulletin Wednesday.

“These individuals sell illegitimate policies to their victims, who are then instructed to pay insurance premiums through money transfer services like CashApp,” the statement said.

Barber was recently charged with insurance fraud and theft after scamming victims out of $1,200. The victims were unaware of the alleged fraud until they were stopped by police, King said.

King encouraged consumers to use the office’s license verification tool to check insurance sellers’ credentials.
