Large Hole Opens Between 2 Homes in Florida
A large hole has opened between two homes in a gated community in Florida.
Pasco County officials said in an email sent Sept. 5 that about half of the hole – which is 40-feet (12-meters) across and 20-feet (6-meters) deep – is under one of the homes in the River Ridge subdivision in New Port Richey.
Building inspectors have deemed both homes unsafe. County officials say both families declined assistance from the American Red Cross and are seeking alternate shelter.
Geologists have not certified the site as a sinkhole.
WTSP reports the hole is not disturbing a nearby middle school and high school.
New Port Richey is north of Tampa on Florida’s west coast.
