Research Group Pegs Cost of Memphis Roads to Drivers at $2K a Year
A new report issued by a nonprofit organization says Memphis roads cost drivers more than any other in Tennessee.
WMC-TV reports that national transportation research group TRIP evaluated road congestion and bad road conditions leading to car repairs or crashes to determine that Memphis roads cost drivers an average of $2,019 each, annually. The April 2017 report suggests that deficient roads cost Tennessee drivers a total of $6 billion annually.
TRIP Associate Director of Research and Communication Carolyn Kelly says the goal of the report, which uses economic and technical data to evaluate a variety of transportation issues, is to get lawmakers to increase infrastructure funding.
