Mississippi Nissan Plant Fined for Safety Violations
The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited the Nissan plant in Canton, Mississippi, for two violations.
WLBT-TV reports a complaint inspection in March had one serious violation and one repeat violation. The total penalty was $32,000.
Production technician Travis Parks tells Mississippi Public Broadcasting that the inspections uncovered slip hazards with oil and water on floors and an open pit, which was the repeat violation.
Parks is a member of a group seeking to unionize workers at the facility. He says Nissan has addressed some safety hazards but more needs to be done.
In a statement, Nissan said employee safety is their top priority. The company says it strives to comply with all safety laws and regulations while adhering to best practices.
