Alabama Woman Injured by Car Crash Inside Dollar General Sues Store

April 12, 2016

An Alabama woman is suing Dollar General saying she was injured when a car crashed inside one of its stores.

News outlets report that 53-year-old Deborah Renae Gilliam filed a civil lawsuit April 4 in Tuscaloosa County Circuit Court. It says Gilliam was shopping March 14 at a Dollar General store in Northport when a driver smashed through the front door.

Gilliam’s attorney, Blake Williams, says she remains hospitalized and may not walk again without using a cane or walker.

Williams says similar crashes have occurred at Dollar General stores at least 10 times since 2008, and the company now has crash barriers outside some locations. He says the store where Gilliam was injured had no such barrier.

Dollar General spokeswoman Crystal Ghassemi said the company doesn’t comment on pending litigation.
