Insurance Costs to Decrease in Mississippi County After Fire Ratings Lowered
The Mississippi Rating Bureau has lowered the fire ratings in two areas of West Jackson County, Miss., a move that can lower fire insurance costs for homeowners and businesses.
The Sun Herald reports the Mississippi State Rating Bureau lowered the fire insurance classification for the Latimer District from an 8 to a 7 and the St. Martin District from a 7 to a 6.
County officials say the Rating Bureau told Jackson County this is the first time an unincorporated area in the state has achieved a rating as low as 6.
Depending on the homeowner’s insurance company, the insurance rates should drop between 5 and 10 percent in Latimer and between 2 and 3 percent in St. Martin.
