Uber Says ‘So Long’ to One of Florida’s Largest Counties
The popular ridesharing service Uber has announced it is leaving Broward County.
The company announced July 6 that it will withdraw completely from the county on July 31.
Uber had previously agreed to withdraw from the airport and port in Broward County, hoping to persuade commissioners not to institute new regulations. Those rules include requiring each driver to obtain a county chauffeur registration, a car permit and background check.
Uber released a statement saying the new rules raise substantial barriers for their drivers and make it impossible for the company to continue operating in the area.
The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports that Uber will still operate in Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties.
