South Carolina City Paints Patrol Car Like Taxi to Discourage Drunk Driving
The Spartanburg, S.C., Police Department has come up with a unique way to draw attention to the cost of drunk driving.
The department announced last month that it will be stationing a police car in the downtown area with the front painted like a police cruiser and the back painted yellow like a taxi. On the side is the motto “Choose Your Ride.”
The department says that the idea is that if you’ve had too much to drink or are on drugs you can choose either to ride home in a taxi or choose to ride to jail in a police car.
The department says the cruiser is being used as part of an education program to stress to drivers that paying for a taxi is cheaper in the long run.
