National Guard Armory Vehicles Worth Over $1M Destroyed by Fire in North Carolina

Investigators in Buncombe County, N.C., are looking into a fire at the Armed Forces National Guard Armory that destroyed two armored vehicles valued at $1.7 million.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports the fire occurred shortly after 3 a.m. Tuesday at the armory, which is north of Asheville. The vehicles were parked outside the armory in a fenced area. No one was hurt.

Asheville Fire Department Battalion Chief Larry Morrow said the armored multipurpose vehicles, used for transporting troops, are valued at $850,000 apiece.

Morrow said the Asheville-Buncombe Arson Task Force is investigating the fire.
