North Carolina Claims Rep, Wife Accused of Insurance Fraud

North Carolina insurance officials have accused a Charlotte man of issuing what is described as unauthorized claim checks and funneling the money into his wife’s bank account.

The N.C. Department of Insurance says 36-year-old Claymonte Rashawn McNeill and 39-year-old Michelle McLaughlin McNeill are each charged with obtaining property by false pretense. Claymonte McNeill is also charged with embezzlement.

The state insurance commissioner’s office said Claymonte McNeill worked as a claim representative for State Farm Insurance when he issued 13 claim drafts totaling nearly $70,000 between October 2012 and November 2013.

Investigators said the money was deposited into a bank account in his wife’s name.

The McNeills were arrested last week and jailed under bond of $10,000 apiece. Jail records didn’t indicate whether the McNeills have attorneys.
