In East Tennessee County, School’s in Recess for Week Due to Sinkhole
There will be no school all week for students at an East Tennessee elementary school after a deep sinkhole opened near the building.
According to the Johnson City Press, the Unicoi County school system is developing both short-term and long-term plans on where the students of Love Chapel Elementary School will attend classes.
The hole is a big one. About 100 tons of rock had been dumped into it before any measurements were made. When the depth was measured, it was 122 feet. The hole is about 25 feet across. It was discovered on Saturday.
Director of Schools Denise Brown said the school system’s insurance carrier said no one should be allowed in the building or onto the school grounds.
