Officials: 3 West Virginia Deaths Attributed to June Storm

West Virginia health officials believe three people died as a result of derecho storm that swept through the state during a major heat wave in June.

Dr. Marian Swinker, state commissioner for public health, says a review of hospital records following the storm indicated three deaths could be attributed to the storm.

Swinker told The Charleston Gazette that one person died in Pocahontas County, one died in Webster County and one died in Randolph County.

Some West Virginia residents were without electricity for two weeks after the storm. At its peak, the storm knocked out electricity to more than 600,000 people.
