USDA Awards $2.8M for Fayette County, W.Va., Flood Project
A flood mitigation project in Fayette County, West Virginia, is getting $2.8 million in federal funding.
The funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture will be used to buy flood-prone properties in Dunloup Creekâs 100-year flood plain. The buyout program is voluntary.
USDA state conservationist Kevin Wickey says in a news release that the project has received at least 128 applications for flood-prone residences. Property owners also have submitted buyout applications for rental properties, commercial buildings, churches, vacant residences and lots.
The Fayette County Commission and the city of Mount Hope will acquire the properties.
