2 North Carolina Counties Near U.S. Top in Pay Growth
Times may be tough, but new data show the average worker in six of North Carolina’s largest counties got a pay raise greater than inflation last year.
The U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis says average annual compensation rose 4.6 percent in Mecklenburg County and 4.4 percent in Cumberland County last year. The federal agency says the biggest pay increases were in the financial, insurance, scientific, and technology industries.
The Fayetteville Observer reported last Friday that pay and benefits for military and federal civilian workers kept Cumberland County in the top 10 nationally for compensation growth. The county dominated by Fort Bragg showed 9 percent growth over the past two years.
There also were compensation increases for workers in Wake, Durham, Forsyth, and Guilford counties.
