West Virginia Receives Funds to Demolish Flood-Prone Homes

July 8, 2011

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has awarded $1.2 million to West Virginia’s Wayne County to acquire and tear down flood-prone homes.

Rep. Nick Rahall announced the hazard mitigation grant. The West Virginia Democrat said the state will provide $500,000 for the $1.7 million project.

Fourteen residences in Spring Valley that have been repeatedly damaged by flooding will be acquired and demolished. Rahall said the properties will remain open space under deed restrictions.
