Reports on 2 West Virginia Chemical Plant Incidents Delayed

Reports on a federal board’s investigations of fatal incidents at two West Virginia chemical plants won’t be released until next year.

The U.S. Chemical Safety Board is investigating a 2008 explosion at Bayer Corp.’s Institute facility that killed one worker immediately. Another died several weeks later.

Also under investigation is a series of leaks at DuPont’s Belle plant in January, including one that killed a worker.

Spokeswoman Hillary Cohen told the Charleston Daily Mail that the safety board had hoped to complete the Institute report by the end of this year. The board is now aiming for January.

Cohen says the Belle report is expected to be completed by March 31, 2011.
