West Virginia County Worried Over Spate of School Bus Crashes
After five traffic accidents involving school buses since students returned to class, Berkeley County, West Virginia officials are readying a new bus safety campaign.
None of the accidents have caused serious injuries, although after a crash last Wednesday in Martinsburg two students were treated and released from City Hospital.
School officials say that was the fifth collision since classes began in August. No bus drivers have been found at fault, and most of the accidents involved a car rear-ending a bus.
Berkeley Schools Superintendent Manny Arvon II says the county is finalizing a monthlong school bus safety campaign to remind drivers, parents and students to be careful on the roads.
Arvon says Berkeley school buses make about 5,000 stops a day.
