North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Volunteers for Pay Cut
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin said he will take a voluntary pay cut in line with what Governor Beverly Perdue has ordered for all state employees.
All state employees — including those in Goodwn’s department– will absorb a half a percent reduction of their annual salary in their May and June paychecks.
The insurance commissioner is a member of the Council of State. The governor does not have the authority to change the salary of council members.
According to Goodwin’s office, his salary is $123,198, thus a 0.5 percent pay cut would be about $615.99 distributed over two months.
“Balancing our state’s budget will not be an easy task, and I certainly want to do my part in supporting my employees at the Department of Insurance and this portion of the state budget solution,” Goodwin said.
