Flooding Threatens Florida Homes
Officials say flooding has damaged or destroyed 106 homes in north Florida and the Panhandle and they’re warning residents in the Suwannee River valley to expect more overflows.
Portions of U.S. Highway 90, Interstate 10 may be closed if the Suwannee continues to rise. Officials said 253 other roads and 23 bridges were closed Wednesday.
Preliminary evaluations put damages at more than $22 million needed to seek a presidential disaster declaration.
Gov. Charlie Crist has declared a state of emergency covering 26 mostly rural counties.
American Red Cross officials say many neighborhoods are still inaccessible.
