Fla. Banking and Insurance Chair to Seek Seat in Congress
Florida State. Sen. Bill Posey, R-Rockledge, says he’s running for Congress.
Posey, currently chairman of the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee in the state Legislature, announced his candidacy Feb. 2 before 250 supporters in Rockledge.
Posey is running for the House seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Dave Weldon, a Republican who lives in Palm Bay.
Weldon said Jan. 25 that he would not seek an eighth term in Congress because he wants to return to his medical practice full time.
Republican state Rep. Stan Mayfield of Vero Beach is among others running for the seat in the 15th Congressional District.
