Miss.: Bolivar Deputy Charged with Insurance Fraud

A Bolivar County, Miss., deputy was arrested and charged with one count of insurance fraud.

Marvin Johnson, 45, of Rosedale, is charged with making a false claim to an insurance company on a car he said was stolen, a news release from Attorney General Jim Hood’s office said.

Johnson allegedly sought payment from Progressive Insurance for a 2003 Toyota Avalon he said was stolen. The deputy has been released on bond after initially being booked into the Panola County jail.

His first court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 12 in Panola County.

“We’re always disappointed when we find that someone the public trusts to enforce the laws is breaking the laws themselves,” Hood said. “It is a breach of that trust and a slap in the face for honest members of law enforcement.”
